STANFORD, Calif. — The 10th-seeded Wheaton College (Mass.) men's water polo team concluded its season with a 24-10 loss to number nine seed Connecticut College this evening in a second consolation game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament at the Avery Aquatic Center on the campus of host Stanford University in Stanford, Calif.
The Lyons finish their season with a 1-20 record, while the Camels improve to 5-14 and will take on Washington & Jefferson College tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. EST in a second consolation contest.
Connecticut College outshot Wheaton, 44-30 for the match and tallied at least five goals in every quarter.
Sophomore utility player Spyros Rapsomanikis (Kerkyra, Greece) led Wheaton with three points on two goals and an assist and added four drawn exclusions. Sophomore two-meter defender Jack Ruggiero (Hamden, Conn.) and first year attacker Charles Jacoby (Reading, Pa.) each netted a pair of goals and drew an exclusion. Sophomores Michael Ruemelin (Chicago, Ill.) and Josh Vander Wagen (Brookfield, Ill.) each collected three points with a goal and two assists apiece to go with a field block. First year goalie Nic Boyer (Toledo, Ohio) registered 12 saves for the Lyons.
Junior attacker Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) led all players with eight points, including six goals and added a field block for the Camels, while sophomore utility player Keegan Kosiba (Birmingham, Mich.) netted five goals, drew four exclusions and came up with a steal. Sophomore utility player Paul Podrebarac (Friendswood, Texas) racked up seven points with three goals and four assists in addition to a drawn exclusion. Sophomore goalie Artem Kyselov (Dnipro, Ukraine) stopped eight of 17 shots in goal and senior keeper Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) allowed a goal.
Connecticut College netted the first three goals of the game, capped by a score from Kosiba, to take a 3-0 margin at the 6:39 mark of the opening quarter. Wheaton cut the difference to one following a goal from Ruggiero and Ruemelin to make it 3-2 with 5:37 left in the first quarter. The Camels increased their lead with a five-goal blitz, paced by a pair of markers from junior attacker Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.), to give them an 8-2 cushion with 4:28 showing in the second period. The Lyons roared back with five of the next seven markers, including a pair of scores from Rapsomanikis, to pull Wheaton within 10-7 with 3:17 to go in the third quarter.
Connecticut College put together an 8-1 stretch, fueled by four goals from Harrington, to effectively put the game out of reach at 18-8 for the Camels with 4:04 remaining in the contest.

Hudson Kosiba (Birmingham, Mich.) scored the Lyons' lone goal during a 6-1 closing run for Connecticut College to end the contest.
