NORTON, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) men's water polo players Aziz Abdulaziz (Istanbul, Turkey), Spyros Rapsomanikis (Kerkyra, Greece), Jack Ruggiero (Hamden, Conn.) and Josh Vander Wagen (Brookfield, Ill.) were named to the 2025 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Water Polo All-Academic Team, it was announced today by the MPSF.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 after the 2025 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, been a member of the varsity team for the entire season and competed in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in the student-athlete's respective sport.
The quartet is the first in school history to be named to the MPSF All-Academic Team in just the second year of the varsity program at Wheaton. The Lyons did not have a student-athlete who met the criteria to qualify last season.
Abdulaziz is a senior Physics and Engineering double major at Wheaton. The driver saw action in 19 contests for the Lyons.
Rapsomanikis is a sophomore Business and Management Marketing major. The utility player earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America Honorable Mention honors and was also an All-MPSF East Honorable Mention selection.
Ruggiero is a sophomore Biochemistry major for Wheaton. The two-meter defender played in all 21 games for the Lyons and ranked second on the team with 26 points, 16 goals and 30 steals.
Vander Wagen is a sophomore Biology major. The two-meter defender appeared in all 21 contests and tallied 11 goals to go with seven assists for 18 points, to place fifth on the team, while adding 12 steals for Wheaton.
The Lyons were the 10th seed in the MPSF Championship Tournament and finished the season with a 1-20 record, including the program's first-ever victory with a 16-13 decision over Washington and Jefferson College on October 18.
