NORTON, Mass. — Nine members of the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's water polo team have received All-Academic Honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and the Collegiate Water Polo Association, it was announced by the ACWPC.
The Lyons were also recognized for a Team All-Academic Award.
Individual honors are divided into three categories: Student-athletes earn an Outstanding designation for having earned a grade point average in the 4.0 - 3.71 range, while those achieving a 3.70 - 3.41 GPA are deemed Superior. In addition, student-athletes, who have compiled a GPA of 3.40 - 3.20 receive Excellent accolades.
The team honor is awarded to institutions that post a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Three Lyons earned the highest-tiered "Outstanding" designation.
Senior driver Aziz Abdulaziz (Istanbul, Turkey), first year attacker Charles Jacoby (Reading, Pa.) and sophomore 2-meter defender Josh Vander Wagen (Brookfield, Ill.) were all chosen for the "Outstanding" category.
A trio of Wheaton student-athletes were featured in the "Superior" category.
First year attackers Ayden Guess (Alvin, Texas) and Hudson Kosiba (Birmingham, Mich.) and sophomore Jack Ruggiero (Hamden, Conn.) were all recognized as "Superior" for the Lyons.
Wheaton also had three student-athletes chosen for the "Excellent" category.
First year attacker Jackson Kesserman (Buena Park, Calif.), first year goalie Nic Boyer (Toledo, Ohio) and sophomore utility player Spyros Rapsomanikis (Kerkyra, Greece) were all deemed "Excellent".
The Lyons were the 10th seed in the MPSF Championship Tournament and finished the season with a 1-20 record, including the program's first-ever victory with a 16-13 decision over Washington and Jefferson College on October 18.
