BRISTOL, R.I. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team placed third at the Chris Fisher Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University at the Aquatics Center in Bristol, R.I.
The Lyons tallied 717 points, while the host Hawks totaled 955.5 points to finish first ahead of Babson College's count of 743.5 points.
Junior Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) led Wheaton with a first place showing in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:33.81 and also added a fourth-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 2:00.51. Junior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) was the Lyons' other individual winner for the day with the top time in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:55.13. Junior Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) finished third with a time of 2:00.24, while sophomore Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) placed sixth with a clip of 2:02.48.
Wheaton won both relays on day two of the meet. The Lyons opened the night with the fastest time in the 200-yard medley relay. Senior Reese Hartmann (Grand Rapids, Mich.) set the tone in the leadoff backstroke, before Lambert-Shemo swam the breaststroke leg. Senior Alexa DiCenso (Methuen, Mass.) took over in the butterfly leg followed by senior Katie Walz (Bellevue, Wash.) in the freestyle anchor to complete a time of 1:48.18.
Wheaton closed out the evening by topping the field in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Stone led off the race, followed by St. Jean, junior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.) and Walz who was the team's anchor again on a combined time of 3:37.24.
Walz was the Lyons' top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:01.45 to place third, ahead of sophomore teammate Kaleigh Morton's (Milford, Conn.) fourth-place time of 1:02.41. St. Jean clocked in at 1:02.70 to finish sixth. Morton was among the top finishers in the 100-yard backstroke with a third-place effort behind a time of 1:02.12. Senior Caris Mann (Hanover, Mass.) registered a fifth-place showing with a mark of 1:03.58, while Dalton hit the wall with a time of 1:03.79 to finish sixth.
Sophomore Mia Bencivenga (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:00.10, while senior Madison King (Wethersfield, Conn.) was Wheaton's top swimmer in the 400-yard individual medley with a ninth-place time of 5:44.73. DiCenso finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.87, while Hartmann clocked in at 25.93 to place ninth in the race.
The Lyons return to the pool on Friday, December 6 at the Maine Collegiate Invite at host Colby College in Waterville, Maine at 6:00 p.m.
