NORTON, Mass. – Juniors Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) and Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) each won an event to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team today at the Wheaton Invitational hosted at Beard Field House on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons scored 48 points to place fourth in the meet, while Worcester Polytechnic Institute tallied 146 points to finish first. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth placed second (109) and Bryant University (71) was third. Wentworth Institute of Technology finished fifth with 30 points, followed in sixth place by Gordon College with 19 points and Brandeis University in seventh with three points.
Peterson turned in a winning time of 22.73 in the 200 meters for Wheaton, while Pinnix posted the top time in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 8.48. Peterson also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.34 meters. Junior Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 23.93, while first year Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) finished seventh in the 60-hurdles with a mark of 9.38.
Sophomore Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) was the runner-up in the 3000 meters to lead the Lyons after pulling in with a time of 8:53.14, while junior Noah White (Winchester, Mass.) was fifth in the race with a time of 9:02.41. Sophomore Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) finished third in the mile with a time of 4:53.95 and sophomore Greg Araya (Westbrook, Conn.) placed sixth with a time of 5:23.71.
Junior Zac Elmasri (Groton, Mass.) led three Wheaton finishers among the top-eight in the 400 meters with a time of 54.41 to place fourth, while Smith finished sixth with a mark of 55.26. Junior William Singer (Los Angeles, Calif.) turned in a clip of 55.44 to finish eighth in the race.
Sophomore GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) recorded a personal-record time of 7.36 to finish eighth in the 60 meters. First year Logan Quinn led the Lyon throwers with a toss of 11.40 meters to place eighth in the weight throw, in addition to finishing 17th in the shot put with a heave of 9.75 meters.
Sophomore Nathan Plympton (East Greenwich, R.I.), Singer, Lacroix and first year Charlie Stockwell combined on a time of 3:45.05 to finish fifth in the 4X400-meter relay to close the meet for Wheaton.
The Lyons return to action on Friday, February 2 when they travel to New York, N.Y. to compete in the NYU DIII Invitational at 5:00 p.m.
