NORTON, Mass. -- Senior Lily Watson (Waterford, Conn.) won all three of her individual events and junior Morgen Coughlin-Doyle (Topsham, Maine) won both diving events to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team over both visiting Connecticut College (165-129) and Babson College (237-57) this afternoon in a double-dual meet at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons improve to 7-2 on the season. The Camels defeated the Beavers, 237-57 and are now 3-2, while Babson falls to 5-5.Â
Watson placed first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events in addition to taking the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley for Wheaton. Watson began the meet by swimming the 50-yard butterfly leg of the opening 200-yard medley relay. Junior Reese Hartmann (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led off the race in the backstroke, before senior Meghan Dickinson (North Kingstown, R.I.) took over in the breaststroke. Junior Katie Walz (Bellevue, Wash.) swam the anchor and touched the wall with a winning time of 1:48.63.
Watson turned in a first-place mark of 24.75 in the 50-yard freestyle, before winning the 100-yard race with a clip of 53.72. She finished her day with a time of 2:12.63 to take the 200-individual medley. Senior Amelia Butler (New York, N.Y.) placed second overall in the 100-yard freestyle for the Lyons with a time of 54.81 and was third overall and second against Babson in the 50 with a time of 25.18.
Coughlin-Doyle posted a season-best tally of 274.27 to win on the three-meter board and scored 262.87 points to finish ahead of the pack in the one meter event. Senior Bella Barrett (Wakefield, Mass.) registered a season-high count of 177.30 points to place third on the one-meter board, before scoring 129.90 points to finish third on the three-meter board for the Lyons.
Dickinson was the third Lyon to boast a pair of first-place finishes, winning both breaststroke races with a time of 30.75 in the 50-yard event and a mark of 1:08.23 in the 100-yard race. Like Butler to Watson, sophomore Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) flanked Dickinson, finishing second in the 50-yard race with a personal-record time of 31.71, before finishing as the runner-up against Babson and third against Connecticut College in the 100-yard event with a time of 1:10.28.
Sophomore Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) won the first individual event of the afternoon with a time of 11:09.57 for Wheaton in the 1000-yard freestyle and later placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:25.87. Walz also finished first and second in events during the meet for the Lyons, winning the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.68 in addition to touching second in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 59.63.
Hartmann placed second overall in the 50-yard backstroke after hitting the wall in 28.71 and finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.34 for Wheaton. Junior Alexa DiCenso (Methuen, Mass.) clocked in at 2:16.27 to place second in the 200-IM and was the third-place finisher in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:00.63.
The Lyons closed out the day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.04. Walz set the pace, before Hartmann and sophomore Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) followed. Butler closed out the race with the last 100 yards in the anchor swim.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Wednesday, January 17 when it hosts Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 6:00 p.m. in Balfour Natatorium, while Connecticut College heads to Waterville, Maine to take on Colby College on January 15 at 1:00 p.m. and Babson travels to Waltham, Mass. on January 23 for a 1:00 p.m. dual with Bentley University.
