Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer team scored three times in a span of 13 minutes to secure a 3-1 victory over host Springfield College this afternoon in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference contest at Brock-Affleck Field in Springfield, Mass.

The Lyons improve to 5-3-4 overall and 1-1-2 in league play, while the Pride fall to 2-7-2 and 1-3.

The teams played to a scoreless stalemate through the first half, before Wheaton broke through with a flurry of goals early in the second half. The Lyons controlled the match in the second session, owning a 12-4 shot advantage to contribute to a 19-7 margin for the game. Wheaton was also awarded all six corner kicks in the contest.

Sophomore forward Alasdair Ferrier (Concord, N.H.) factored into a pair of goals for the Lyons with an assist and a marker.

Wheaton finally broke through 3:53 into the second half when Ferrier took a touch from senior midfielder Ewan Noble (Newport, R.I.) and lifted a shot over the arm of the Springfield keeper for his league-leading eighth goal to put the Lyons ahead, 1-0. Wheaton tacked on another tally less than five minutes later when Ferrier found Noble for his third marker of the year in the 54th minute of play. Junior forward Luke Strange (Portland, Ore.) gave the Lyons a three-goal advantage on a feed from senior midfielder Gabriel Fellows (Middletown, R.I.) in the 62nd minute.

The Pride crashed Wheaton's goal-scoring trend with one of their own when senior midfielder Cris Cruz (Greenwich, Conn.) popped up a ball into the box and first year forward Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) headed in the pass to close the gap to 3-1 in the 64th minute.

Senior keeper Cam Millington (Fairfield, Conn.) made one save for Wheaton, while senior goalie Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) turned away nine shots for Springfield.

The Lyons return to play on Tuesday, October 11 when they host Williams College on Keefe Field at 3:30 p.m., while the Pride head to New London, Conn. to take on NEWMAC foe United States Coast Guard Academy on October 15 at 12:00 p.m.
