Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Angela Mallis and first-year Molly Covarrubias scored two goals each as the Wheaton College women's lacrosse team battled Trinity (Conn.) at Robin Sheppard Field Sunday afternoon, as the Lyons fell 14-4 to the Bantams.
Trailing 3-0, Wheaton finally got on the board with 24:12 remaining in the opening half with Mallis' first goal of the half. Hannah Gasperoni, who assisted Mallis in her first goal, found the senior nearly 20 minutes later for the Lyons second goal of the day.
Covarrubias started the second half with her first goal of the day, cutting Wheaton's deficit to six. The Bantams went onto score five more goals before Covarrubias could find the back of the next again. The Lyon first-year drained her second goal of the contest with 1:40 left to go in the contest.
Maddy Lahm won five draw controls for Wheaton, while Mallis won two. Mallis, along with Meg Sharick, also came up with a team-high three groundballs.
Galicia Rothe and Molly Witten split time in goal, coming up with four and three saves respectively.
Wheaton returns to the field on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest against Smith College on Diane C. Nordin '80 Field.
