Qua Leads Women's Lacrosse in 17-3 Rout over Clark (Mass.)

NORTON, Mass. — Junior attacker Georgia Qua (Suffield, Conn.) tallied a career-high eight points, including five goals, to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse team over visiting Clark University, 17-3, this afternoon at Nordin Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons have won three of their last four and improve to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Cougars fall to 2-6 and 0-3. Wheaton has scored at least 14 times in each of their wins this season. 

The home team dominated play with a 36-11 shot advantage, while limiting Clark to just 10 of 21 on clears. The Lyons also won 12 of 22 draw controls. The Blue and White allowed single goals in the first, third and fourth quarters, while blanking their guests in the second period. 

Qua added six ground balls to her day for Wheaton, while sophomore midfielder Sage Winslow (Waterford, Maine) netted the first two goals of her career to go with an assist for a personal-best three points in addition to winning four draws and picking up a pair of ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Alexis Antonellis (Lyme, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and added four ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control. Junior attacker Katie Prinn (Manchester, Mass.) and senior attacker Bridget McDwyer (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) each netted a pair of goals and added a ground ball. Junior goalie Jenna Langan (Lincoln, R.I.) allowed a pair of goals in the first 35:39 of play, before yielding to senior Katie Geis (Duxbury, Mass.), who stopped three of four shots in the final 24:21 of action.

Senior midfielder Elizabeth Cacciapaglia (Ridgefield, Conn.) led the Cougars with a goal, four ground balls and a draw control, while junior attacker Sarah Forrester (Acton, Mass.) netted a goal and added a pair of ground balls. Sophomore middie Sydney McMonagle (Trappe, Pa.) registered a goal, a ground ball and a trio of draw controls, while sophomore defender Ava Soch (Cranston, R.I.) collected a game-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers. First year keeper Ella Forsman (Decatur, Ga.) made 10 saves for Clark.

The Lyons scored the first three goals of the game and eight of the nine markers in the first half to take an 8-1 lead. Winslow netted her first collegiate goal just 57 seconds into the match to put the home team on the board. Qua netted her first goal of the day to give Wheaton a 3-0 margin at the 10:39 mark of the quarter. McMonagle scored the Cougars' only goal of the half to crack the scoring column with 6:17 to go in the opening quarter. 

The Lyons tallied the final five markers of the period, including the fourth goal of the year for sophomore midfielder Emma-Jane Parsons (Oakland, Maine) to give Wheaton a seven-goal cushion heading into the break. 

Forrester tallied an advantage goal to open the third quarter and pull Clark within 8-2 with 13:18 showing on the third quarter clock. The Lyons netted the next five goals of the quarter, including two each from Qua and McDwyer, to increase their margin to 13-2. Prinn opened the fourth quarter with her first marker of the season and junior attacker Kelsey Bennett (Harrison, Maine) found the back of the net for her first collegiate score at the 10:14 mark. Qua took advantage of a Cougar penalty and scored her 30th goal of the year to give Wheaton its largest lead of the day at 16-2 with 7:34 remaining in the contest. Cacciapaglia netted Clark's final goal with 5:15 left, before Prinn capped the afternoon's scoring with her second marker at 2:45 of the fourth period.

The Lyons return to action on Wednesday, April 1 when they travel to Wellesley, Mass. to take on NEWMAC rival Wellesley College at 7:00 p.m., while the Cougars host Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a conference tilt on the same day at the same time.
