BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team competed at Bridgewater State University on Wednesday evening, defeating the Bears 153-78 to earn their third win of the season.
The Lyons opened the meet earning a top finish in the 200-yard medley relay when junior Alexa Resetar, senior Jess Ryabin, first-year Sophia Hatzikos and sophomore Tayla Slater placed first with a 1:59.17 final time.
Senior Claire Bollman and sophomore Allison Mosier claimed first and second in the 1,000-meter freestyle with big final times of 11:43.36 and 12:20.74. The 200-yard freestyle race was another strong area for the Lyons when sophomore Rowan Rice (2:10.84), first-year Shannon Connolly (2:14.77) and senior Amalia Quesada Nylen (2:20.09) all placed in the top five.
First-year Caitlin Daley also dished out a first place performance for Wheaton when she clocked in at 26.23 in the 50-yard freestyle with sophomore Kate Dransfield right behind her in second at 28.05. The Lyons went one-two-three in the 100-yard individual medley thanks junior Aleza Epstein, senior Kelley Baylis and Hatzikos registering top times with Epstein and Baylis timing personal bests.
Senior Emily Girard and Rice continued the strong action for the Lyons in the 100-yard freestyle when they shut the Bears out of the top two places with Girard earning a 58.70 final time and Rice claiming a 1:00.44 final. The 50-yard backstroke looked similar when Baylis (29.73) and junior Joanna Zak (31.62) placed first and second while Mosier, sophomore Jesse Stewart and Connolly earned the top three positions in the 500-yard freestyle.
First-year Maddy Morrison recorded first-place in the one (214.65) and three-meter (217.80) dives to continue her hot streak for the Lyons while sophomore Katherine Conway earned second place in the one-meter (181.10) and three-meter (198.60) dives.
The Lyons compete next on Friday, Nov. 18 when they host Roger Williams University at 4:30 p.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
