NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team picked up its second straight win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 155-139 defeat over visiting Bentley College in the Lyons home opener.
The Lyons picked up their first points of the day with a win in the 200 medley relay. The Lyons top team finished in 1:52.12, while the "B" and "C" teams took third and fourth. Wheaton also earned a win in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.87. The 200 relay also saw Wheaton finish in third and fourth place as well.
Claire Bollman concluded the 1000 freestyle in second place with a time of 11:35.94, while Emily Girard saw a personal best 11:40.36. Bollman then swam a season best 5:37.11 in the 500 free, which was good enough to earn her third place.
Aleza Epstein and Caitlin Daley finished second (2:02.06) and third (2:03.69) respectively in the 200 free. Daley's time was a personal best. Daley then took second place in the 50 free with a time of 25.74, which was also a season best, while teammate Maggie Lawler finished in third place (26.49).
Epstein and Daley finished back-to-back in the 100 free, with Epstein turning in a time of 55.46* and Daley touching in 57.01*.
Jenna Hayden won the 100 backstroke for the Lyons with a time of 1:01.12, while senior Kelley Baylis took home third (1:03.52). Hayden also won the 100 fly for the Lyons, finishing with a season best time of 1:00.61.
Wheaton's picked up another first place finish, this time in the 100 breaststroke, with Erin Kean finishing in a season best time of 1:10.65. Elizabeth Bernardy finished the race in third place, while Jess Ryabin and Amber Wright were right behind. Kean went on to turn in a personal best time in the 200 breast (2:33.29), while Molly Gibson finished with a season best time of 2:37.18. Wheaton also had swimmers finish fourth through eighth in the 200 breast.
Kean also finished in third place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:22.46.
Sophia Hatzikos earned a season best in the 200 butterfly (2:19.84) where she finished second, while Gibson finished third with a personal best time of 2:27.06.
First-year Katherine Vitello took home third place in the 200 back (2:19.87).
Maddy Morrison and Katherine Conway finished in first and second in the 1-meter diving event, with Morrison finishing with 264.30 points and Conway with 203.34. The duo did the same in the 3-meter diving event with Morrison earning the Lyons 278.17 points, breaking the school record set back in 2010 for first and Conway 219.37 in second.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Friday, Nov. 4 at the Coast Guard Academy for a 6 p.m. meet.
