MEDFORD, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving fell to Tufts University, 198-136, on Saturday in a non-conference meet.
Relay team Jacob Cost, Samuel Zarfos, Daniel Spencer and Jonathan Dunnett kicked off the events for Wheaton by securing a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay race with a final time of 1:40.08.
Timmer Sposato battled it out in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:37.76 for third place. He also received first place for the 500-yard freestyle when he clocked in at 5:17.64.
Frederick Garneau followed his lead during the 200-yard freestyle by also placing third by tapping in at 1:50.81. He also received second in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.48. Cost went on to claim second for the Lyons in the 100-yard backstroke at 54.60 while Zarfos tallied second place for the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:03.76.
In a tight race, Dunnett registered a first place spot for Wheaton in the 50-yard butterfly by clocking in at 24.28, narrowly beating Tuft's top finisher in second at 24.48. He went on to claim second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 27.61 and first in the 100-yard individual medley with a 56.02 final.
Later on, Spencer recorded at third place spot in the 100-yard freestyle at 51.79, Raymond Bortolot placed first in the 100-yard butterfly at 58.39 and Zarfos grabbed first in the 400-yard individual medley to keep up Wheaton's drive.
Wheaton's relay teams collected the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the top team consisting of Jerard Fredette, Cost, Sposato and Garneau with a 1:31.29 final time.
The Lyons travel back home on Friday as they host Trinity (Conn.) at 7 p.m.
