NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team returned to the pool on Tuesday in the dual meet against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competitors Mount Holyoke College and Clark University. The Lyons defeated both teams with a 160-74 win over Clark and 134-105 win over Mount Holyoke.
Ceara Bowman helped open the meet for the Lyons during the 1,000-yard freestyle, claiming third place with a final time of 11:45.02. Claire Bollman (fourth), Lucy Frey (fifth) and Allison Mosier (sixth) finished right behind her.
Next up during the 200-yard freestyle, Rebecca Idman recorded second place by tapping in at 2:05.34. Jenna Hayden continued the momentum for Wheaton in the 50-yard freestyle by clocking in at 26.38 for second place. She also placed third in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:03.68.
Later on in the 200-yard individual medley, Rowan Rice (2:21.05), Courtney Leach (2:23.14) and Molly Gibson (2:27.44) claimed spots in the top five to collect more points for the Lyons. Leach went on to place first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.56.
Skyler Dean-Lee tallied second place during the 100-yard backstroke to give the Lyons another push with a final of 1:04.44. Julia Baynes kept the drive up as she also grabbed second place for Wheaton in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:44.02. Rice then completed the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:13.17 for second place.
Wheaton helped wrap up the meet on a high note in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a first place finish from Tayla Slater, Leach, Kelsey Meyer and Idman at 1:43.92.
On the diving side, Katherine Conway secured first place for Wheaton in the one and three meter dives with a final score of 199.50 and 213.98. Tori Popstein registered second place for both dives with a final of 161.18 and 186.15.
The Lyons host Babson College on Saturday for another NEWMAC dual meet with start time set for 1 p.m.
