BRISTOL, R.I. – Sealing their second straight win, the Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team left Rhode Island with a 196-92 defeat over Roger Williams University on Friday evening.
Opening the meet in the 400-yard medley relay, Wheaton's top team finished first with a final time of 3:38.88, thanks to Jacob Cost, Samuel Zarfos, Jonathan Dunnett and Ross Johnston.
Wheaton went on to grab the top two spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle with Timmer Sposato placing first at 10:46.02 and Jeremy Zak in second at 10:48.60. Later on, Frederick Garneau snagged first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a final of 1:48.01, two full seconds before the first Roger Williams contestant.
Cost continued the momentum for the men clocking in at 54.84 for first place in the 100-yard backstroke. Dunnett and Zarfos followed his lead in the 100-yard breaststroke, claiming first and third place with finals of 1:01.31 and 1:02.82.
Johnston battled it out to receive first place for the Lyons in the 200-yard butterfly, tapping in with a final of 2:03.06.
Wheaton went on to sweep the top three places in the 50-yard freestyle race with top marks from Garneau (22.53), James Horne (22.97) and Jerard Fredette (23.03).
Wrapping up the meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Wheaton's top team finished first place again at 3:18.66 with swimmers Todd Lambert, Fredette, Horne and Garneau.
Richard Davies was another top performer for the Lyons, receiving first place in the one and three meter dives final marks of 215.90 and 248.30.
Wheaton competes at home on Saturday against Keene State and Springfield College with meet time scheduled for 1 p.m.
