HARTFORD, Conn.  – The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team fell to Trinity (Conn.), ranked No. 2 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, by a score of 17-6 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Brooke Sabol (Landgrove, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy) paced the Lyons with two tallies, while classmates Allie Bush (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk), Jenna Tewksbury (Concord, N.H./Concord) and Madison Cohen (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and senior Hannah Whitley (Bow, N.H./Bow) each netted one goal in the setback. Senior co-captain Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) recorded the team's only assist.

Bantams' junior goalkeeper Bridget Kitchen (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) earned her first win of the season as she turned away one of seven shots. Wheaton junior Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) stopped 11 of 28 shots, and is now 2-2 on the season.

The Bantams outshot the Lyons, 31-9, and scooped up 18 ground balls compared to Wheaton, which finished with 12. Trinity converted seven of eight clears and won eight draw controls. Wheaton won 15 draw controls, highlighted by junior Melanie Sharick (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) who finished with five. Bush won three draw controls, while Cohen and junior Anna Viragh (Columbus, Ohio/Wellington School) won two, respectively.

Griffin's first strike at 29:33 jumpstarted a 12-0 run for the Bantams, which was stopped by Bush at 4:06. Trinity led Wheaton, 12-1, at the break.

Sabol netted her two goals at 28:19 and 22:24 in the second half, while Tewksbury added an early second half goal at 23:42. Whitley's tally at 18:44 brought the Lyons within nine points, the closest they'd get before the Griffin initiated a 3-0 run with a goal at 16:35, which pushed the Bantams ahead for good.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, March 15 as the Lyons travel to Endicott College for a 1 p.m. opening draw, while the Bantams host Bates College for a 12 p.m. start.
