Marlowe wins at No. 1 singles for the Lyons
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback to Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Tuesday afternoon on the Clark Tennis Courts.
Wheaton senior captain Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) picked up the lone win for the Lyons over Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) at No.1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Kathryn Burelson (Osterville, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) played to a super tie-breaker against Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla./Palmer Trinity) at No. 5 singles but fell 7-5, 1-6, and 10-4. Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) lost a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 3, while Stassy Furber (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) was dealt a 6-0, 6-3 setback at the No. 6 position.
The duos of Gorham and Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro) and Furber and Caroline Stanclift (Camden, Maine/Cushing Academy) each dropped 8-2 decisions at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, this afternoon for the Lyons.
Wheaton (4-5, 4-3 NEWMAC) continues their season on Saturday when the Lyons travel to Clark University for a conference match scheduled for 11 a.m. Babson (9-2, 5-2 NEWMAC) travels to Bates College on Friday for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.
