Bingham engineers second half surge with two goals

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team fell to MIT, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Wheaton sophomore midfielder Noah Kossoff (New York, N.Y./Birch Wathen Lenox School) gave the Lyons an early 1-0 lead in the 18th minute sniping a shot into the lower left corner of the net from about 25-yards out past Engineers' sophomore goalkeeper Jake Amereno (Commack, N.Y./Commack), his fifth goal of the season.

The score remained deadlocked until the 56:32 mark as Bingham buried a pass by senior midfielder Matthew Monheit (Abington, Pa./Abington) from the left side of the goal for his NEWMAC-leading 11th marker.

In the 70th minute, Bingham put MIT ahead by a 2-1 margin finishing a feed by junior Chester Chambers (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) from the right flank.

The Lyons nearly tied up the contest in the 83rd minute as junior midfielder Luke Finkelstein's (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) shot struck the crossbar. Down the stretch, Wheaton compiled three shots including two opportunities which were blocked.

Amereno made three saves to improve to 6-1-1 overall on the season, while Lyons' sophomore goalkeeper Matt Dickey (Newton, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon School) turned aside four shots.

The Blue and White outshot the Engineers, 13-12, and won the corners matchup 8-2.
