Box Score GORHAM, Maine - Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H./Concord) scored six goals and handed out three assists in Wheaton College's 19-7 win over Southern Maine in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
Classmate Sydney Ferguson (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) tied a career-high with four goals for the Lyons (2-1), who outshot the Huskies 36-16 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Junior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) potted a career-high three goals while sophomore Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) added a pair as four Lyons recorded multi-point games.
Defensively, junior Stephanie Hoomis (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) made three saves to pick up her first win of the season. Sophomores Hayley Bright (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) and Devon Soucier (Avon, Conn./Northwest Catholic) each collected four ground balls while junior Kristen Palmer (East Dorset, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy) won nine draw controls.
Junior Shelby Turcotte (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) and sophomore Rosie Forster (Andover, Mass./Andover) each scored twice for Southern Maine, which received 10 saves from sophomore Kim Vogel (Sanford, Maine/Sanford).
Wheaton built an early 7-1 lead and led 11-5 at halftime behind two goals each from Colburn and Ferguson. Following Forster's second goal of the contest to open the second half, the Lyons reeled off eight-straight goals - including four by Colburn - to build a 19-6 lead.
The Lyons return to action on Sunday with a noon contest at Connecticut College. The Huskies (2-2) travel to Castleston State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest.
