MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -– Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse player Jessica Chamberlin (Bow, N.H.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week of April 13-19, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.
The honor marks the second time that Chamberlin has earned the award this season after being tabbed for the week of March 16-22. She becomes the first Lyon to earn a weekly NEWMAC accolade twice in the same season since 2014 when Devon Soucier '14 was selected Defensive Athlete of the Week two times and the first offensive player since Hailey Colburn '12 was chosen twice during the 2012 campaign.
In two games for Wheaton, Chamberlin was outstanding on the offensive end of the field. The senior tallied 11 points on eight goals and three assists to go with seven ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control. The attacker was incredibly efficient, scoring eight times on just 10 shots. Chamberlin began the week with a pair of goals on three shots and added an assist and a ground ball at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 15. The Bow High School product capped the week with six goals on seven shots to go with two assists, a caused turnover, a draw control and a career-high six ground balls at Johnson & Wales University on April 17.
For the season, Chamberlin has 50 goals in 15 games for an average or 3.33 per game to rank fourth in the conference, while standing fifth with 4.47 points per game for a total of 67. The Political Science major places 10th among league leaders with 17 assists for an average of 1.13 helpers per game. Chamberlin's shot accuracy has been uncanny, leading the NEWMAC and ranking seventh in the nation with a 64.9% rate. The Granite State native has been incredibly consistent and dependable for the Lyons, notching at least one point in all 15 contests that she's appeared in, while recording multiple points 15 times. Chamberlin has netted two or more goals on 11 occasions, including a career-high of eight to go with an assist to open the season at Bridgewater State University on February 18. The goal total is tied for seventh-most in a game in program history.
Chamberlin has started 48 of 68 career matches at Wheaton, while racking up 144 career points on 91 goals and 53 assists. She currently ranks sixth all-time in career assists for the Lyons. Her game has been extremely well-rounded since her arrival in Norton with 95 draw controls, 67 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers to go with a 50% shooting percentage.
The Lyons are currently 11-5 on the season for their highest win total since 2014 when they finished the season at 14-7. Wheaton is 5-4 in league play and will conclude the regular season on Wednesday, April 22 when it hosts NEWMAC foe Babson College on Nordin Field at 7:00 p.m.
