SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.- The Wheaton College women's volleyball team notched a 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21) victory over Westfield State University during the opening day of the Hall of Fame Tournament on Friday at fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school Mount Holyoke College inside Howard Gymnasium.

The Lyons improve to 9-18 on the season, while the Owls fell to 7-17.

Freshman Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) turned in a team-best 18 kills while hitting .448 to lead Wheaton.  She also had three blocks.  Classmate Casey Hess (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) finished with eight kills and three blocks.

Freshman Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) put forward a solid all-around performance with six kills, eight digs and five blocks. 

First-year setter Page Gustofson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Tahoe) handed out 21 assists, and classmate Jackie Kochiss (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) finished with 14 helpers to go alongside 10 digs.

Freshmen Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) and Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) each registered a team-high-tying 11 digs.

Freshman Sarah Alexander (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and junior Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) contributed six and four blocks, respectively.

During tomorrow's tournament action, Wheaton heads to another fellow league school in Smith College to take on a pair of New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foes.  The Lyons play Colby College at 11:00 a.m. and nationally-ranked Bowdoin College at 3:00 p.m.

Bowdoin enters tomorrow ranked 24th nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and first in the region by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA).  Colby is currently receiving votes in the most recent regional poll.
