Women's Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, it was announced by the AVCA.

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale for the recently completed academic year.

"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."

The Lyons posted a team GPA of 3.35 for the academic year.  Wheaton women's volleyball boasted nine student-athletes with a 3.5 or better GPA, including two Lyons with a perfect 4.0 for the year. Wheaton has earned the award six straight years and for the ninth time overall.

The Lyons finished the season with a 12-17 record, including 3-8 in league play.
