SOUTH HADLEY, MA- Senior point guard Andrea Bailey (Needham, MA/Needham) tallied a career-high 19 points while hauling down 10 rebounds to help the Wheaton College women's basketball team rally late for a 62-58 victory at Mount Holyoke College in Howard Gymnasium during New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday. Now 11-6 overall and 8-2 in the league, Wheaton won for the ninth time in the last 10 games. The hosts slipped to 6-11 and 4-6.

Bailey shot 7-of-7 on free-throw tries during the contest, adding five assists and three steals, while senior Jenny Champney (Bedford, MA/Bedford) tossed in 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Freshman Jeana Trimboli (Norwalk, CT/Trinity Catholic) nailed three three-pointers en route to 11 points, and classmate Natasha Colon Ortiz (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke) added eight points and five boards in 16 minutes as a reserve. Wheaton made good on a large disparity at the charity stripe, going 17-of-23 to Mount Holyoke's 5-of-6.

Senior Jess Olson (Gilbert, AZ/Highland) netted 23 points and seven rebounds for the hosts, while classmate Erin Cain (Quincy, MA/Fontbonne Academy) had 15 points and eight boards. Sophomore Tricia Chase (Feeding Hills, MA/Cathedral) notched eight points and seven caroms, and classmate Christine Chancy (Bay Harbor Island, FL/Miami Country Day School) turned in seven assists and seven rebounds.

Wheaton fell behind by as many as seven points in the second half, trailing by a 44-37 count with 12:58 remaining, and a Cain three at 9:45 had the visitors down 47-42. However, Bailey scored five points during an ensuing 14-0 run, canning a long-range shot that put the Blue and White on top for good at 5:44, as the visitors held the hosts scoreless for a 6:23 stretch.

Trimboli's lay-up off a Champney helper capped the run, making it 56-47 with 3:38 to go, before a personal 7-0 stretch by Olson brought Mount Holyoke within two points at 1:50. Two Bailey freebies were countered by a pair from Olson at 1:29, but another couple of free throws by Bailey with 11 ticks to go made it a four-point game. After a Cain hoop with one second left, Champney knocked down two free throws, and Bailey came up with a clinching steal.

The teams played through seven ties and five lead changes in the opening stanza alone. With the score knotted at 15, Champney provided four points during a 6-0 Wheaton run, but five straight points by the hosts later gave them the lead back with 3:05 before halftime. Each squad had 30 points by intermission, at which time both teams had shot 44.4 percent from the field.

Wheaton returns home on Wednesday to face defending NEWMAC Tournament champion Babson College in a rematch of last year's league title game. The Beavers are holding down first place in the conference with a perfect 10-0 mark.
