WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Senior Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) fell just short of breaking the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase and placed 12th in the event to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza at Lee Track on host Williams College's campus in Williamstown, Mass.
Lacroix posted a time of 9:38.97 to fall just 1.7 tenths of a second short of matching the 24-year old school standard. He bettered his own personal-record time by just under four seconds.
Junior Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) was also in action for the Lyons today, scoring 3248 points through the first five events of the decathlon and sits in third place. He finished first in the 100 meters with a personal-record time of 11.19, while placing as the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 6.39 meters. Smith was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 52.33 and fifth in both the shot put with a personal-best heave of 10.40 meters and the high jump with a height of 1.69 meters.
Wheaton returns to the track tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. for the second day of the F.I.R.E. meet at Williams.
