BEVERLY, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team swept the Endicott College Gulls 7-0 in their penultimate non-conference match of the season on Saturday in Beverly.
Wheaton improved to 9-7 with the win while the Gulls fell to 9-12 in their final regular season match of 2026.
The Texan Tandem of senior
Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and junior
Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) started the day strong for Wheaton in the number one doubles match. They suffocated their opponents, sophomore Emily LeClerc (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Caroline Sutliffe (Duxbury, Mass.) to the tune of a 6-0 win.
First year
Amelie Robinson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and junior
Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.) fell in the number two doubles match. Junior Amber Woods (Scarborough, Maine) and junior Abby Fleming (Wolfeboro, N.H.) took down the Lyons duo with a 6-4 win.
Junior
Isabella Cottrell (Melrose, Mass.) and junior
Asia-Leigh Hollis (Hamilton, Bermuda) clinched the doubles point for the Lyons in the number three doubles match. First year Jillian Friedman (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Milana Montini (Southbury, Conn.) pushed the Wheaton pair to the very edge, but the Lyons hung on to win the third match 7-5 to win the doubles point for Wheaton.
With a 1-0 lead in hand, attention turned to the singles matches. Greenlee and LeClerc clashed in the number one singles match, which Greenlee won with ease. She cruised to a straight-set victory with a 6-1 score in both frames to put Wheaton ahead 2-0.
Ortiz brought home a point for Wheaton in the number three singles match as well. Her first set went the way of Sutliffe, but the Lyons got a lucky break when the Gulls opponent retired from the match, giving Ortiz the win by default.
Junior
Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) came into the singles rounds fresh after sitting out during the doubles. She bounced Woods out of the court with an emphatic straight-set win, shutting Woods out of the first set 6-0 before taking the second set 6-2. Wilson's win made the score 4-0, clinching the match win for Wheaton.
Robinson also won in straight-sets from the number six singles. Montini struggled in the first set as Robinson took it 6-2 before she improved in the second set. That improvement was only marginal, however, and Robinson again took the set 6-3.
Haraj-Sai repeated the straight-set victory in the number two singles. She took the first set from Friedman, 6-2 before the Gull tightened up in the second set. Despite the increased resistance, Haraj-Sai took home a 6-4 win to keep the sweep hopes alive.
Hollis played in the longest singles match by far in the number four position. She took the first set from first year Nadia Uzelac (Waltham, Mass.) 6-2. Uzelac made an about-face in the second set to take the frame from Hollis with a 6-4 win. The resulting third set saw Hollis jump ahead for an early lead which she never relinquished en route to a 10-5 win in the tie-breaking set. The win earned Wheaton's seventh point of the match to secure the sweep victory on the road.
Wheaton returns to Norton for its next match as they host Smith College in a NEWMAC contest on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. Endicott awaits its conference tournament seeding after their final regular season match today.
