MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) men's lacrosse player Emmett Edwards (Sunderland, Vt.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week of March 16-22, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.
The senior earns the honor for the third time in his career for the most career weekly offensive awards for a Lyon since Billy McNamara '12 earned his fourth Pilgrim League Player of the Week nod in 2011. Edwards does have the highest total of NEWMAC offensive weekly awards in program history. Along with teammate Evan Borchert (Littleton, Colo.) being tabbed the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week today for the second time this season, Wheaton now has six weekly awards in 2026 with junior Chris Bodnaruk (Andover, Mass.) being named the NEWMAC Face Off Specialist of the Week for February 23 to March 1, junior Evan Paturzo (Bellingham, Mass.) (February 9-15) and senior Charlie Goodrich (Fairfield, Conn.) (February 16-22) being chosen as the weekly Offensive Athlete of the Week. The number of weekly awards ties the school record set during the 2024 campaign. Edwards' offensive accolades gives the Blue and White a school-record total of NEWMAC weekly offensive awards in one season. The last time three Lyons were selected for three weekly offensive honors was during the 2010 season when McNamara was named the Pilgrim League Player of the Week three times.
Edwards netted four or more goals in two contests to give him 10 goals and an assist for the week in addition to six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. The attackman was credited with game-winners in both matches for Wheaton. Edwards was incredibly efficient with a season-high six goals on eight shots in addition to an assist, four ground balls, and a caused turnover in the Lyons' 12-6 win over Eastern Connecticut State University on March 17. His sixth score of the day was also the 100th of his career to become just the ninth player in school history to reach the milestone. The Vermont native capped the week with four goals, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in Wheaton's 10-2 victory over visiting Emerson College on March 21.
Despite missing the first two games of the season, due to injury, Edwards currently ranks third in the conference with 3.00 goals per game and is eighth with 3.75 points per outing. The Burr and Burton Academy product has been an absolute sniper with the stick for the Lyons, netting multiple goals in seven of eight games that he's appeared in. Edwards has netted 18 markers over his last four games from March 11-21, while picking up eight ground balls and causing four turnovers during that span. The Tri-Captain has been lethal when Wheaton enjoys a player-advantage with seven "man-up" goals. He also has four game-winning scores on the season to go with 14 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The Green Mountain State native has started all 44 games for his career and currently stands ninth in career markers with 104 goals and is just outside the program's top 10 for points with 140, despite missing most of his rookie campaign with a season-ending injury. In addition, the Business major has 92 ground balls, 16 caused turnovers and eight game-winning tallies.
The Lyons are currently 8-2 on the season, including 1-1 in NEWMAC play and return to action on Saturday, March 28 when they head to Worcester, Mass. to take on Clark University at 1:00 p.m.
