Box Score SANFORD, Fla. - The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team put themselves back in the winning column with a resounding victory over Otterbein University on Thursday afternoon in Florida. The Lyons took down the Cardinals with a 6-1 win, including a sweep over the singles.
Wheaton improves to 5-4 on the season with the win, while Otterbein remains winless at 0-5 following the loss.
The match began with singles play, allowing the Lyons to show their strength as solos. Senior
Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) kicked off the day as she took on junior Breanna Ball (Powell, Ohio) in first singles. Greenlee dispatched her opponent with ease, sweeping Ball in straight-sets 6-1, 6-0.
Junior
Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.) faced stiffer resistance in the second singles against junior Taryn Simmers (Marion, Ohio). Simmers pushed Haraj-Sai to the edge in the first set, forcing a tiebreaker to decide the winner. Haraj-Sai held on to take set one 7-6 after a 7-1 win in the tiebreaker. She made much quicker work of Simmers in the second set, defeating the junior 6-2 to clinch the second point for the Lyons.
Senior
Allisa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) had to climb a steeper hill than any of her teammates in the singles. Sophomore Niya Bell (Fort Wayne, Ind.) claimed the first set 6-1, to set Ortiz on the back foot. Ortiz was unflappable in the face of adversity, charging back to take the second set 6-2 to force a tie-breaking third set. Ortiz claimed the winning point with ease, winning the tiebreaker 10-3 to claim the point from third singles.
Junior
Asia-Leigh Hollis (El Paso, Texas) resumed the Lyons' dominance as she walked to a straight-set win over junior Caitlin Pennington (Chillicothe, Ohio). A 6-1 win in set one and a 6-0 shutout in set two put Ortiz over the top of Pennington and gave Wheaton the winning point at 4-0.

Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) and first year
Amelie Robinson (Minneapolis, Minn.) each won their singles game in straight-sets to put the Lyons ahead 6-0 after the singles wrapped up.
Ortiz and Greenlee joined forces in the first doubles, and while Simmers and Bell offered some resistance, the Wheaton tandem came out on top 7-5. Robinson joined up with first year
Lydia Branson (Bowdoin, Maine) in the second doubles, and were topped by the Otterbein duo in second doubles. The third doubles pairing of junior
Isabella Cottrell (Melrose, Mass.) and first year
Lily Runyan (New Milford, Conn.) suffered a similar fate in third doubles, dropping the point to Otterbein. Despite the doubles loss, the Lyons came away with a resounding 6-1 win.
Wheaton will head back to New England for their next match on Saturday, March 21 at Clark University at 2:00 pm. Otterbein takes on Olivet Nazarene in Orlando tomorrow at a time to be determined.
