Goodrich Tallies Seven Points to Lead Men's Lacrosse over Lasell, 16-5

NORTON, Mass. — Senior attackman Charlie Goodrich (Fairfield, Conn.) matched his career high with seven points to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's lacrosse team over visiting Lasell University, 16-5, this afternoon at Nordin Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Lasers fall to 0-2.

Wheaton out-shot its guests, 38-30 and owned a 39-24 disparity in ground balls. The Lyons also won 15 of 24 faceoffs in the game.

Goodrich netted a career-high five goals and added a pair of ground balls, while junior middie Evan Paturzo (Bellingham, Mass.) scored five times to go with three ground balls for Wheaton. Junior attackman Theo Stamatel (Plainville, Mass.) matched his career high in points (five) and assists (four) and twin Henry Stamatel (Plainville, Mass.) was just as effective on the defensive end with six ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers. Junior face-off specialist Chris Bodnaruk (Andover, Mass.) won 12 of 16 draws and picked up four ground balls to go with his first collegiate goal. Junior goalie Evan Borchert (Littleton, Colo.) allowed just four goals and made 11 saves in 51:33 of action, before yielding to first year Cole Wilson (Barrington, R.I.), who made his collegiate debut, stopping one of two shots in 6:38 of action. Classmate Silas Vega (East Brunswick, N.J.) closed out the game with the final 1:49 in net.

Junior attackman Colin LeBaron (Tolland, Conn.) led Lasell with a goal, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers and junior attacker Jason Martin (Billerica, Mass.) netted a goal, picked up a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover. Senior midfielder Nate Campbell (Nashua, N.H.) scored a goal in addition to a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover. Junior netminder Cameron Soave (Framingham, Mass.) registered 13 saves for the visitors.

The Lyons scored the first seven goals of the game, including four from Paturzo, two from Goodrich and Bodnaruk's first career score at the 4:01 mark of the opening quarter to give Wheaton a 7-0 advantage with 13:47 to play in the second period. 

The Lasers got on the board when sophomore midfielder Nick Halesworth (Medfield, Mass.) found the back of the net at the 8:38 mark of the second quarter. The teams scored just one goal apiece in the quarter to set the Lyons up with a 7-1 halftime margin.

Wheaton scored three of the first four goals to begin the third quarter, capped by a score from sophomore midfielder Zac DiLauri (Parsippany, N.J.) to increase the home team's cushion to 10-2 with 7:18 to go in the quarter. Campbell cut the deficit to 10-3 with a goal for Lasell, but the Lyons effectively put the game out of reach with six of the next seven goals to take a 16-4 advantage. First year attacker Jamie Kline (Ellington, Conn.) and first year midfielder Torin Levy (Billerica, Mass.) each registered their first respective collegiate goals during the final scoring stretch for Wheaton. 

The Lyons return to action on Saturday, February 21 when they head to Bristol, R.I. to take on Roger Williams University at 1:00 p.m., while the Lasers host Emerson College on the same day at 12:00 p.m.
