MEDFORD/CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Junior Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) posted the second-highest heptathlon score in program history to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team during a day where it competed at the Tufts Cupid Challenge hosted at Tufts University's Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center in Medford, Mass. as well as the Crimson Open hosted at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track in Cambridge, Mass.
Smith placed seventh in the heptathlon at Tufts for the Lyons with a tally of 4236 points, which is just 22 points of the school standard. He finished first in the 60 meters with a personal-record time of 7.13 and was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best mark of 9.02 to go with a personal-record effort of 6.26 meters to finish fifth in the long jump. He also placed sixth in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:01.22 and in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters. His height of 3.05 meters placed him 12th in the pole vault and his heave of 8.97 meters was good for 14th in the shot put.
Sophomore Gavin Landry (Sebago, Maine) posted the fourth-fastest time in school annals to finish 12th overall and third among Division III runners at Harvard in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) also competed in the event for Wheaton, placing 24th overall and sixth among D3 runners with a time of 8.99.
First year Jack Kittredge (Broad Brook, Conn.) led the Lyons in the 1000 meters at Tufts with a time of 2:47.57 to finish 19th, while first year Liam Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) clocked in at 54.44 to finish 22nd in the 400 meters. Junior Andrew Fortin (South Dartmouth, Mass.) was not far behind at 54.60 to place 24th in the race for Wheaton. First year Eli Pinney (Brockton, Mass.) led the Blue and White with a 25th-place showing on a leap of 5.84 meters in the long jump, while senior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) finished 27th in the event with a mark of 5.77 meters. Mualis also finished 28th to lead Wheaton in the 200 meters with a time of 24.15.
First year Kayden Chhoun (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the Lyons with a time of 2:07.06 to place 26th in the 800 meters and senior Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) established a personal-record time of 16:07.39 in the 5000 meters to finish 34th. Sophomore Dan McIntyre (Keene, N.H.) turned in a time of 4:47.00 to lead Wheaton in the mile and place 34th. Senior Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.) led the Lyons' throwers with a heave of 12.40 meters to place 23rd in the shot put, while first year Nick Barbee (Manchester, N.H.) was 37th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.02 meters.
Wheaton returns to the track on Saturday, February 21 when it hosts the Wheaton Post-Season Qualifier at 3:00 p.m. at Beard Field House.
