COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For the second straight year, the Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team boasted 15 team members being named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad, it was announced by the NFHCA.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.
Wheaton's total matches the count from last year, which was its highest since 2018. The total ranks the program 41st in the nation, while standing among the top 27.2% in Division III.
Among the Lyons, who were honored,11 have previously received the accolade.
Seniors Rebecca Berman (Avon, Conn.), Maddie Hatch (Gorham, Maine), Riley Levrault (Lakeville, Mass.) and Abby Miller (Andover, Mass.) were all chosen for the fourth time in as many years, while juniors Hannah Fortin (Dartmouth, Mass.), Maddie LaBreck (Rollinsford, N.H.) and Maria Worden (Burlington, Vt.) all repeated as three-year honorees. Sophomores Ava Audette (Essex Junction, Vt.), Aubrey Collier (Yarmouth, Maine), Kelsey Thompson (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Kayla Wilonski (Wallingford, Conn.) were named to make it back-to-back years for the NFHCA accolade. First years Molly Braica (New Boston, N.H.), Kayla McLean (Gorham, Maine), Katie Sirois (Greene, Maine) and Aisling Twombly (Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.) were all tapped in their first year of eligibility for the honor.
Wheaton has claimed at least 10 honorees in every year since 2013 and has had at least one Lyon selected in every year since 2008.
Wheaton finished the season with an overall record of 8-10, including 3-6 in league play.
