MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer player Aidan Doyle (Kingston, Mass.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week of September 22-28, it was announced today by the league.
With the award, the Lyons have received four weekly honors from the NEWMAC this season for the most since 2019 when Diego Medina '22 earned Defensive Athlete of the Week honors twice and Alberto Franceschi '23 and Charlie Stringer '23 were each named Offensive Athlete of the Week. Doyle has been named the league's top weekly offense athlete for the second time in his career after earning the accolade on September 3 last season. He joins Declan Rhatigan (Holderness, N.H.) (Offensive Athlete of the Week - September 2), Baden McLaughlin (Yarmouth, Maine) (Offensive Athlete of the Week - September 8) and Nelson Leao (Bar Harbor, Maine) (Defensive Athlete of the Week - September 15) as Lyons who have been tabbed by the NEWMAC this season. Wheaton has not had three offensive players earn a NEWMAC weekly award in the same season since at least 2009.
Doyle was instrumental in Wheaton's 3-3 tie at No. 18 Brandeis University on September 24. The midfielder netted a pair of goals and assisted on Wheaton's game-tying marker to preserve its unbeaten season.
For the season, the senior has been the most prolific goal-scorer in the NEWMAC with seven tallies, while adding three assists to give him 17 points. The Thayer Academy product has started all nine contests for the Lyons and currently ranks 28th in the nation in total points and 31st in goals. Doyle put together a string of four straight matches with at least one goal from September 6-16 and has tallied a pair of multi-goal outings in 2025.
A Business & Management major, Doyle has played in 38 career games, including 12 at Division I Stonehill University. The Bay State native transferred to Wheaton prior to the 2024 campaign and has 10 markers and five assists in 26 matches with the Lyons.
Wheaton is 7-0-2 overall this season, including 2-0 in league play, and is currently ranked ninth in the most recent United Soccer Coaches national poll. The Lyons return to play on Wednesday, October 1 when they host Anna Maria College on Keefe Field at 4:00 p.m.
