Men's Tennis Thwarted by No. 25 MIT, 7-0

 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's tennis team was defeated by host No. 25 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 7-0, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play at Dupont Tennis Courts in Cambridge, Mass.

The Lyons dip to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league action, while the Engineers improve to 4-4 and 2-0.

MIT won all three doubles matches to gain the first point of the dual match, before sweeping through singles play with six wins.

Sophomore Jake Murray (San Diego, Calif.) took first year Youngwoo Takh (Sunnyvale, Calif.) to the limit in the opening set at fifth singles, battling to a 6-6 count, before his MIT foe took the frame, 7-6. Takh won the next set, 6-0. Wheaton sophomore Calvin Van Dyke (Albuquerque, N.M.) was downed at number four singles by sophomore Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.), 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Jaime Galligo (Madrid, Spain) and first year Pablo Munoz (Paris, France) were both defeated in their respective singles matches, 6-1, 6-1. Graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) won at number one over Galligo for the Engineers, while fellow graduate student Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) earned the victory at third singles for the home team.

MIT sophomore Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles over Lyon sophomore Paul Berteaux (Courbevoie, France), while sophomore Cole Armstrong (Mary Esther, Fla.) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win for the Engineers over Wheaton sophomore Jack Thain (Aberdeen, Scotland) at sixth singles. 

Galligo and Berteaux were defeated at number one doubles by Kahler and Choudhary, 6-2. Armstrong and Gallagher registered the same margin of victory at second doubles for MIT over Van Dyke and Murray. Munoz and Wheaton senior Daniel Bor (Seattle, Wash.) were defeated at number three doubles by Tahk and Li, 6-4.

The Lyons return to the courts on Tuesday, March 25 when they travel to Hanover, N.H. to take on Colby-Sawyer College at 4:00 p.m., while the Engineers host NEWMAC rival Springfield College on April 2 at 3:30 p.m.
