WALTHAM, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team was defeated by host No. 25 Brandeis University, 7-0, this afternoon at Cordish Tennis Center in Waltham, Mass.
The Lyons fall to 3-6 on the season, while the Judges improve to 1-6.
Brandeis swept doubles play to pick up the doubles point in the dual match, before winning all six singles matches.
The senior duo of Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India) earned a 6-3 decision over Wheaton's junior tandem of Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) at number one doubles. Junior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China) and sophomore Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines) combined for a 6-1 victory over the Lyon pairing of sophomores Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.) and Asia Hollis (Hamilton, Bermuda) at second doubles.
Parwani and Zhang were double winners for the Judges, adding a singles win to their doubles efforts. Parwani won in straight sets over Greenlee at number one singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Zhang was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number three singles over Ortiz.
Brandeis sophomore Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India) put together a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Haraj-Sai. Senior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece) registered a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles over Hollis and first year Charly Saltz (Natick, Mass.) dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lyon first year Maya Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) at number five singles.
Wheaton returns to play on Tuesday, March 25 when it travels to Hanover, N.H. to take on Colby-Sawyer College for a 4:00 p.m. match, while the Judges head to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to play Skidmore College on March 23 at 1:00 p.m.
