Box Score

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team boasted three double-winners in a 6-1 victory over Loras College this afternoon at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Lyons improve to 2-5 on the season, while the Duhawks fall to 7-12.

Junior Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas), sophomore Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) and first year Maya Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) were all double-winners for Wheaton with victories in both singles and doubles play in the dual match.

The Lyons gained the doubles point by winning two of three matches to open the contest. Greenlee combined with classmate Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) for a 6-2 win at number one doubles over senior Dorothy Deans (Dane, Wis.) and sophomore Mary Breitbach (Peoria, Ill.). Wilson and Brennan teamed to grind out a 7-6 (6) win over senior Caroline Hutchinson (Dubuque, Iowa) and junior Alexis Tatum (Round Lake, Ill. at third doubles.

Greenlee downed Breitbach 6-3 in the opening set, but needed some extra effort in the second frame, taking the set 7-6 7) to win the match at number one singles. Wilson won her match at fifth singles with 7-5, 6-1 effort over Loras junior Ellie Kalina (Slinger, Wis.). Brennan followed suit at number six singles. She defeated Tatum in the opening set, 6-4, before cruising to a 6-1 second frame win to take the match.

Wheaton sophomore Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.) did her part at number two singles, dropping just five games in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Deans. Sophomore Asia Hollis (Hamilton, Bermuda) registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory at number four singles over Hutchinson to give the Lyons five of six singles matches for the day.

The Duhawks' only point came at number three singles where senior Leia Papanicholas (St. Charles, Ill.) was tied with Ortiz, 3-3, but the Wheaton junior was unable to continue, resulting in a win for Papanicholas.

Papanicholas and Kalina combined for a win in doubles play over Haraj-Sai and Hollis by a count of 6-3.

The Lyons return to action again on Thursday, March 13 when they take on New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference foe Emerson College at the United States Tennis Association National Campus in Orlando, Fla. at 11:00 a.m, while Loras plays Otterbein University tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
