MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Wheaton College (Mass.) women's soccer player Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week of October 27 to November 2, it was announced today by the league.
Bandrup earns the award for the second time this season after being tabbed for the week of August 25-31. She has received the honor five times in her career for the most weekly defensive accolades in school history. The acknowledgement marks the third time this season that a Lyon has been a weekly recipient by the NEWMAC with first year Karina Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.) being selected as the Offensive Athlete of the Week last week.
The senior allowed just one goal and made 14 saves in two matches to post a 0.50 goals against mark and a .933 save percentage for the week. The keeper denied all four shots she faced to record her fifth shutout of the season in a 1-0 win at United States Coast Guard Academy on October 29. Bandrup capped the week by making 10 saves for her fourth double-digit save effort in a 2-1 victory at Salve Regina University on November 1.
For the season, Bandrup has been one of the best goalies in the conference, topping all keepers in save percentage with an .879 mark in league-only matches. Overall she owns a .874 mark in all games to rank second in the NEWMAC, while placing tied for second with a 1.14 goals against average. The Poway High School graduate stands third with 7.76 saves per outing, while recording five clean sheets for the second-most in the league.
Bandrup has enjoyed an outstanding career with the Lyons, ranking second on the career list with 489 saves, fifth in minutes played with 5807:49, sixth in shutouts with 14 and seventh in victories (26) to go with a 1.39 goals against average. The Economics and Italian major has started all but two of the 67 matches she's played in for Wheaton.
The Lyons are currently 10-7 on the season, including 6-5 in conference play to earn the fifth seed in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. Wheaton travels to Babson Park, Mass. to take on fourth-seeded Babson College on Tuesday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m.
