NORTON. Mass. — Senior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) won a pair of individual events and helped the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team win both relays this evening on the final day of the Chris Fisher Invitational hosted at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
Babson College overcame Roger Williams University with a score of 843 to capture the team title, while Roger Williams tallied 825 points. The Lyons scored 657 points to place third and Eastern Connecticut State University finished fourth with 447 points. Saint Joseph's College (Maine) placed fifth in the meet with a team score of seven.
Wheaton won four of eight events for the night.
Stone posted season-best marks in both of her wins for the Lyons. She touched the wall at 1:55.97 in the 200-yard freestyle and registered a clip of 24.50 to win the 50-yard freestyle. Junior Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) swam the lead backstroke of the 200-yard medley relay, before senior Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) swam the breaststroke. Stone followed in the butterfly, before junior Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) finished the final 50 yards on the anchor leg to complete a time of 1:49.15. Stone set the winning pace in the 400-yard freestyle, followed by Lambert-Shemo, first year Lauren Bullins (Lenexa, Kan.) and St. Jean as part of a mark of 3:38.54.
Senior Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) piled up points for Wheaton, winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:16.95 in addition to placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:59.72. Morton came in third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.14 and was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a clip of 1:02.75. Senior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:57.23 and Bullins turned in a time of 2:37.56 to place fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke.
St. Jean finished sixth with a time of 2:01.41 in the 200-yard freestyle to contribute for the Lyons, while Lambert-Shemo was seventh in the race with a mark of 2:01.53. Junior Kelsey Callaghan (Vestal, N.Y.) also registered a seventh-place effort in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:42.20 and first year Margeaux Anselmi (Pearl River, N.Y.) placed sixth in the event at 2:42.18. Junior Mia Bencivenga (Pittsfield, Mass.) chipped in with an eighth-place effort in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:05.2 and junior Sara Curry (New Bedford, Mass.) finished 10th in the race with a mark of 21:07.82.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Friday, December 5 at 6:00 p.m. when it travels to Waterville, Maine to compete in the Maine Collegiate Swimming & Diving Winter Invitational.
