BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – First year Lauren Bullins (Lenexa, Kan.) tallied 22 points to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team to a 212-86 victory over host Bridgewater State University this afternoon at Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Swimming Pool in Bridgewater, Mass.
The Lyons improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Bears fall to 0-1.
Wheaton won 14 of 16 events, including six 1-2-3 sweeps of individual events.
Bullins won the first individual event of the day, touching first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:17.95, before showing her range with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle behind a time of 59.01. She also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Senior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) won a pair of events, showing her versatility with wins in the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard butterfly. She clocked in at 1:01.30 in the backstroke and 27.83 in the butterfly.
Stone also helped the Lyons win both relays. Junior Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) led off the 400-medley relay to open the meet with the backstroke, before senior Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) swam the breaststroke. Stone followed with 100 yards of the butterfly, before junior Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) closed out the win with the freestyle anchor to contribute to a time of 4:14.16. Stone and St. Jean were joined in the 200-yard freestyle relay by senior Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) and Bullins to end the night. The quartet posted a time of 1:44.34.
Senior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.), Lambert-Shemo, Morton and Van Holland each scored 13 points to contribute to Wheaton's win. Dalton touched first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.51, ahead of Van Holland's second-place effort, and added a second-place finish of her own in the 100-yard backstroke. Van Holland comfortably won the 500-yard freestyle by 36 seconds with a mark of 5:27.98. Lambert-Shemo was the fastest swimmer in the 50-yard breaststroke with a clip of 32.60 and was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle. Morton took the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.24 in addition to a second-place showing in the 400-yard individual medley. St. Jean racked up 12 points, topping the field in the 50-yard freestyle with a sprint of 26.39 in addition to placing third in the 200-yard freestyle.
Junior Kelsey Callaghan (Vestal, N.Y.) and first years Margeaux Anselmi (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Sarah Inman (Windham, Maine) each touched first in events for the Lyons. Callaghan placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.76, while Inman outswam the field in the 50-yard backstroke with a 34.80 clip. Anselmi won the final individual event of the afternoon with a mark of 4:55.56 in the 400-yard IM.
First year Ella Kent (Framingham, Mass.) led Wheaton's divers with a score of 144.80 to place sixth on the one-meter board.
The Lyons return to the pool on Saturday, November 8 when they travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on host Springfield College and United States Coast Guard Academy in a double-dual meet at 11:00 a.m.
