LEWISTON, Maine — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team was defeated by host Bates College, 160-57, this afternoon at Tarbell Pool in Lewiston, Maine.
The Lyons slip to 1-5 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 1-0 after their season opener.
Bates won 10 of 12 events.
First year diver Ella Kent (Framingham, Mass.) led Wheaton with a first place finish on the one-meter board with a personal-best score of 185.05 points.
Senior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) turned in the other first-place effort for the Lyons, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a sprint of 25.06 to go with a third-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle behind a time of 5:26.02 to give her a team-high 12 points. Classmate Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) picked up a pair of top-three finishes with a second-place showing in the aforementioned 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:20.79. She also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.61 to give her seven points.
Senior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.) and junior Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) each chipped in with five points for Wheaton. Dalton placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:08.43 to go with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle on a time of 58.99. Morton hit the wall at 1:14.16 to place third in the 100-yard freestyle and was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a clip of 1:04.71.
The Lyons return to action on Friday, November 21 when they host the Fisher Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
