BABSON PARK, Mass. — Seniors Reese Hartmann (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Katie Walz (Bellevue, Wash.) and junior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) each won a pair of events to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team to a 176-107 victory over host Babson College this afternoon at Morse Pool in Babson Park, Mass.
The Lyons improve to 7-1 on the season, while the Beavers fall to 6-4.
Wheaton won 12 of 16 events during the day.
Hartmann dominated the backstroke winning in both lengths, recording a victory in the 100-yard race with a time of 1:00.13, before touching first in the 200 yards with a mark of 2:11.74 for Wheaton. Stone excelled in her stroke as well, topping the field in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. She placed first in the 100-yard event with a time of 55.64 in addition to winning the 200-yard race with a time of 2:00.53. Walz helped complete the Lyons' sweep of freestyle events with a triumph in the 50-yard race, clocking in at 24.66. She added a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.12.
Junior Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) tallied 13 points with first and second-place efforts for the Lyons. She finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke behind a swim of 1:10.98 and added a runner-up showing in the 200-yard breaststroke. Senior Alexa DiCenso (Methuen, Mass.) and junior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.) scored 12 points apiece with, including a first-place effort each. DiCenso turned in a winning mark of 2:18.29 in the 200-yard butterfly in addition to placing second in the 200-yard breaststroke. Dalton shined in the distance events, winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:09.04, before placing second in the 500-yard freestyle to classmate Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.), who touched first with a time of 5:23.54.
Senior Morgen Coughlin-Doyle (Topsham, Maine) scored 268.10 points to finish first for Wheaton on the one-meter board.
The Lyons closed the meet with a time of 3:43.47 to win the 400-yard freestyle relay behind Stone, Hartmann, Lambert-Shemo and Walz.
First year Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) led Babson with a team-high 17 points after placing first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:18.55 after finishing second in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. First year Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) posted the fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:32.79 and placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. The Beavers opened the meet with a winning time in the 200-yard medley relay. Senior Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.), senior Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.), Turhan and first year Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) combined on a top time of 1:50.68.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Wednesday, January 22 when it heads to Worcester, Mass. to take on Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 6:00 p.m., while Babson travels to Bridgewater, Mass. to compete against Bridgewater State University on January 25 at 2:00 p.m.
