WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team was defeated by host Wellesley College, 7-0, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts in Wellesley, Mass.
The Lyons dip to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in NEWMAC action, while the Blue improve to 2-0 and 1-0.
Wellesley swept through doubles play and won all six singles matches in straight sets without surrendering more than five games in any contest.
Sophomore Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and first year Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) defeated Wheaton juniors Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) with a 6-1 scoreline at number one doubles, while sophomore Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) won a 6-1 set for the Blue at number two doubles over Lyon sophomores Asia Hollis (Hamilton, Bermuda) and Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.). Wellesley also picked up a triumph at third doubles behind sophomore Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and first year Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) in a 6-2 decision versus Wheaton sophomore Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) and first year Maya Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.).
Sophomore Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and Mariottiearn scored points for the Blue with spotless 6-0, 6-0 wins at first and sixth singles. Xu won at number one over Greenlee, while Mariottiearn came out on top of Brennan at number six.Â
Patel clinched the match for Wellesley by defeating Ortiz 6-0, 6-3 at number three singles. Sarav followed suit with a 6-0, 6-2 performance against Wilson at fifth singles.
Khera and first year Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) closed out the dual match for the Blue. Khera won 6-4, 6-1 over Hollis at number four singles and Buttorff came away with a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Haraj-Sai at second singles.

Wheaton returns to the courts on Monday, September 30 when it hosts Assumption University on the Clark Tennis Courts at 4:00 p.m., while the Blue wraps up their fall season by welcoming Emerson College at 5:00 PM on October 2.
