Women's Tennis Blanked by No. 18 Babson, 9-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team fell to host No. 18 Babson College, 9-0, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference action at the Babson Tennis Courts in Babson Park, Mass.

The Lyons slip to 9-8 on the season, including 3-5 in conference play, while the Beavers, who are ranked in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, improve to 11-5 and 7-1. 

Babson won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead in the dual match, before sweeping six singles matches to complete the victory.

Wheaton's sophomore duo of Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) was defeated by the Beavers' tandem of junior Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas), 8-3. Babson did not drop a game in second and third doubles, taking both matches by a count of 8-0. Senior Juliette Moschella (Little Silver, N.J.) combined with first year Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) to defeat the Lyon pairing of senior Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) and junior Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.) at number two doubles. The Beavers pair of senior Jane Wang (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) downed Wheaton's first year combination of Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.) and Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) at third doubles.

Haraj-Sai won three games at second singles to lead the Lyons in singles action. She was defeated, 6-0, 6-3, by Babson sophomore Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas). Greenlee suffered a 6-0, 6-1 result at first singles to Beaver junior Laetitia Rizk (Beirut, Lebanon), while Kruse won a game each in a 6-1, 6-1 loss at number four singles to Kamal.

Lyon senior Zoe West (Queens, N.Y.) took a game off Khattar at fifth singles in a 6-0, 6-1 setback. Keitt and Wang were unblemished in 6-0, 6-0 victories. Keitt got the better of Ortiz at third singles, while Wang downed Wheaton sophomore Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.) at number six.

The Lyons close out the regular season on Saturday, April 27 when they host Smith College on the Clark Tennis Courts at 12:00 p.m., while Babson hosts NEWMAC foe Wellesley College on the same day at 4:00 p.m.
