Box Score BEVERLY, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's soccer team was blanked by host Endicott College, 2-0, this evening at Hempstead Stadium in Beverly, Mass.
The Lyons drop to 3-5-1 on the season, while the Gulls improve to 7-2.
Endicott owned a 17-3 shot advantage for the match, including all seven shots of the opening stanza. The home team was awarded all eight corner kicks in the match as well.
Despite the shot disparity, the Wheaton defense held the Gulls with just one goal in each half and held them scoreless for a span of over 55 minutes.
Endicott got on the board first in just the fifth minute of action to take a 1-0 lead. Senior midfielder Kelly Talerico (Portland, Conn.) played a thru-ball ahead the length of the field and into the box, where junior forward Grace Jewett (Millis, Mass.) converted the feed for her second marker of the year.
The Gulls added an insurance goal in the 60th minute to double their lead at 2-0. Senior back Gillian Magnier (Shelburne, Vt.) scored on a one-timer blast from nearly 40 yards out to notch her first career tally.
Sophomore Ali Roche (Maynard, Mass.) paced the Wheaton offense with a pair of shots.
Sophomore keeper Patricia Brandrup (Poway, Calif.) finished with four saves for the Lyons, while Endicott junior goalie Rosalina Caliri (East Greenwich, R.I.) was untested to register her fifth shutout of the season and 10th of her career.
Wheaton returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 30 when it hosts New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference rival Springfield College at 1:00 p.m. at Mirrione Stadium, while the Gulls host Roger Williams University on the same day at 3:00 p.m. to close out a three-match homestand.
