Women's Tennis Blanks Clark, 9-0, in Season Finale

NORTON, Mass. — Five players were double-winners for the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team in a 9-0 victory over visiting Clark University this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play at the Clark Tennis Courts on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass. The match was the season finale for both schools.

The Lyons conclude their season with a 4-13 overall record, including 2-6 in league play, while the Cougars fall to 1-9 and 0-8. 

Wheaton swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the dual match, before winning all six singles contests. 

The Lyon first year duo of Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) posted an 8-5 win over Clark senior Liliya Georgitsa (Greenfield, Mass.) and junior Hannah Russo (Bridgewater, Mass.). Junior Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) and sophomore Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.) combined for Wheaton at number two doubles for an 8-1 decision over sophomore Leilani Brown (Trumbull, Conn.) and first year Merielle Kane, while the Wheaton junior tandem of Zoe West (New York, N.Y.) and Katalyn Foster (Weston, Conn.) came away with an 8-2 victory at third singles over seniors Maeve McEnroe (Marion, Mass.) and Nardin Sayoufi (Shelton, Conn.).

West dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win at fifth singles for the Lyons over Kane to give the home team the match's fifth and deciding point. Ortiz was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number three singles for Wheaton over McEnroe, while Kruse dropped only three games at third singles for the Lyons with a 6-3, 6-0 outcome. 

First year Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.) won in straight sets at sixth singles to give Wheaton a point in a 6-3, 6-0 victory over sophomore Emma Allen (West Boylston, Mass.). The Lyons received wins at the top of the singles lineup as well with Mueller taking down Brown at number one singles and Greenlee downing Georgitsa at second singles by the same scores of 6-2, 6-4.
