Women's Tennis Shut Out by No. 18 Babson, 9-0

NORTON, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team was defeated by visiting No. 18 Babson College, 9-0, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play at the Clark Tennis Courts on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass. 

The Lyons fall to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in NEWMAC play, while the Beavers improve to a perfect 11-0 and 6-0.

Junior Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) battled at number one singles for Wheaton, taking Babson first year Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) to the limit in the opening set, before succumbing, 7-5. Stasiowska won the second frame, 6-1. 

Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) combined with junior Juliette Moschella (Little Silver, N.J.) for an 8-4 effort at number one doubles over Wheaton's first year tandem of Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas). Junior Adèle Fernández (Guaynabo, P.R.) and first year Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) teamed for an 8-6 victory for the Beavers at number two doubles against the Lyons' duo of Mueller and sophomore Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.). Babson senior Morgan Mann (Newport Coast, Calif.) joined junior Jane Wang (San Diego, Calif.) to down Wheaton junior Zoe West (New York, N.Y.) and first year Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.), 8-1.

Moschella was the victor at number two singles for the visitors, taking a 6-1, 6-0 result at number two over Greenlee. 

Keitt was a double-winner for Babson, winning at number three singles over Ortiz by a count of 6-1, 6-2, while Wang posted her second win of the match at sixth singles over Doiron, 6-0, 6-0.

First year Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas) scored a victory at fourth singles for the Beavers with a tally of 6-1, 6-1 over Kruse. Babson first year Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) followed her classmate's lead with a triumph at number five singles over West, 6-1, 6-0.

The Lyons return to the courts on Friday, April 14 to host conference rival Emerson College on the Clark Tennis Courts at 2:30 p.m., while the Beavers return to play on the same day when they head to South Hadley, Mass. to take on NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke College at 4:30 p.m.
