ORANGE, Calif. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team was defeated by host Chapman University, 9-0, today in a dual match at Erin J. Anderson Tennis Center in Orange, Calif.
The Lyons fall to 1-6 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 3-2.
Chapman swept all three doubles matches, before winning six straight singles contests.
Wheaton first year Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.) won five games at number six singles in a 6-4, 6-1 loss to sophomore Libby Leal. Junior Zoe West (New York, N.Y.) captured four games for the Lyons in a 6-1, 6-3 loss at fifth singles to sophomore Ava Tyler (San Diego, Calif.).
Wheaton first year Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) was downed at third singles by sophomore Lucy Erickson (Portland, Ore.) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, while first year Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) was defeated at number two singles, 6-1, 6-0 by Panther sophomore Alexis Golin (Westlake Village, Calif.).
Lyon junior Mareike Mueller (Amsebury, Mass.) and sophomore Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.) were both defeated by scores of 6-0, 6-0, at first and fourth singles, respectively, by senior Aliya Allyn (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Olivia Desso (Evergreen, Colo.).
Ortiz and Greenlee teamed for Wheaton at number one doubles in an 8-2 loss to the Chapman tandem of Allyn and Golin. Mueller and Kruse were blanked at second doubles, 8-0, by Desso and Panther sophomore Brooke Waite (Del Mar, Calif.). Chapman received the same result at number three doubles with an 8-0 victory for junior Soleil Zsbrita (Irvine, Calif.) and Racquel Fhima (Minneapolis, Minn.) over the Lyon duo of West and Doiron.
Wheaton returns to action on Tuesday, March 21 when it hosts Connecticut College at 4:00 p.m. EDT on the Clark Tennis Courts, while Chapman hosts Middlebury College at 2:00 p.m. PDT.
