WESTWOOD, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer players Joey Everett (Danbury, Conn.), Lucas Goettel (Cumberland, Maine), Robert Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.), Baden McLaughlin (Yarmouth, Maine), Kevin Morse (Acton, Mass.), Michael O'Gara (Ardmore, Pa.) and Jackson Ragonese (Portsmouth, N.H.) were named to the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference squad, it was announced today by the league.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2023 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Lloyd earns a spot on the squad for the third straight year, while Goettel earns the nod for the second straight season. The sophomore group of Everett, McLaughlin, Morse, O'Gara and Ragonese are all first-time selections in their initial year of eligibility for the honor.
Lloyd is a senior Political Science and Philosophy major. The Tri-Captain started all 19 matches and netted three goals, including a game-winner. Goettel is a junior Mathematics and Economics major, while seeing time in 10 contests for the Lyons.
Everett is a Psychology major and ranked second on the team with seven points, including a goal and five assists in 19 matches, while McLaughlin started two of 19 matches that he played in and notched a goal and an assist as a double-major in Business & Management and International Relations. Morse started one of 14 matches he appeared in and is undecided on a major and O'Gara started 17 matches in goal for Wheaton, while maintaining a goals against average and save percentage that ranks him among the top keepers in the nation. He is a Business and Economics major, while Ragonese majors in Business and Economics as well and saw action in 15 matches, while making six starts.
The Lyons own an 8-5-6 overall record, including 5-1-2 in conference play and advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament Semifinals before bowing to second-seeded Babson College. The team awaits the decision of the selection committee for an NCAA Tournament bid.
