WESTWOOD, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball player Sydney Lyon (Weston, Conn.) was named to the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Second Team, it was announced today by the league. 

Lyon becomes the first Wheaton volleyball player to earn All-Conference honors since Becca Houghton and Julia Palomba were both Second Team selections following the 2019 campaign.

The outside hitter was one of the best players in the conference, averaging 3.15 kills and 3.70 points per set in 105 sets over 28 matches to rank sixth among league leaders in both categories. The sophomore was extremely versatile for Wheaton with an ability to pass and play defense at the net in addition to her outstanding hitting effort and serving prowess. She averaged 0.41 aces per set for a total of 43 and 2.02 digs per frame to stand third on the team, while recording 0.28 blocks per set and a .176 hitting percentage. Lyon swung for double-digit kills on 18 occasions and posted 12 double-doubles in kills and digs this year. A graduate of Weston High School, she put away a career-high 25 kills on September 30 vs. Gordon College for the third-highest figure by any NEWMAC player in 2023. Lyon was a weapon from the service line as well with 11 multiple-ace efforts, including a personal-best mark of six vs. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on September 8, 2023.

The hitter has played in 185 career sets over 53 matches, while swinging for 497 kills for a rate of 2.69 per set, while firing 77 aces, picking up 383 digs and getting up for 43 blocks.

Wheaton finished the season with a 14-14 record, including 5-6 in conference play and captured the seventh seed in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament, before bowing in the Quarterfinals.
