BRISTOL, R.I. – Sophomore Tali Dalton (Andover, Minn.) won a pair of distance events to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team over host Roger Williams University, 141-64, this evening at the Aquatics Center in Bristol, R.I.
The Lyons improve to 2-0 on the season to extend their dual-meet win streak to 19 straight, while the Hawks fall to 0-2.
Wheaton won nine of 11 events, including both relays and turned in a 1-2-3 sweep in three different events.
Dalton led a sweep of the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle for the Lyons, touching the wall at 11:09.85. Classmate Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) (11:16.49) and senior Katalyn Foster (Weston, Conn.) (11:22.65) completed the sweep.
Dalton and Van Holland finished 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle as well, with Dalton posting a mark of 5:29.13, ahead of Van Holland at 5:33.51.
Junior Katie Walz (Bellevue, Wash.) tallied 13 points for Wheaton after placing first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.18 and second in the 50-yard freestyle with a clip of 24.94, behind Roger Williams sophomore Victoria Fahey's (Scituate, Mass.) effort of 24.53. Sophomore Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) scored 12 points for the Lyons with a win in the 200-yard freestyle to lead a sweep with first year Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) (2:05.87) in second and classmate Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) following in third. Stone also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke. Junior Reese Hartmann (Grand Rapids, Mich.) won the 200-back with a time of 2:13.93 for Wheaton and senior Lily Watson (Waterford, Conn.) placed second with a mark of 2:16.15 as part of a sweep for the visitors.
Senior Ana Curry (New Bedford, Mass.) picked up a win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:20.79 for the Lyons, while junior Alexa DiCenso (Methuen, Mass.) touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke with sophomore Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) 2.5 tenths of a second behind.
Wheaton dominated both relays, opening the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay behind Hartmann's lead backstroke, followed by senior Meghan Dickinson (North Kingstown, R.I.) in the breaststroke, Walz in the butterfly and senior Amelia Butler (New York, N.Y.) closing out the final 100 yards in freestyle to combine on a winning mark of 4:03.72. Stone, first year Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.), Dickinson and Hartmann closed out the meet with a time of 1:44.45 to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Hawks' other event win came in the 400-yard individual medley behind the time of 4:54.09 from junior Kate Wieler (Bourne, Mass.). DiCenso placed second in the race for the Lyons with a time of 4:56.95 to give her 13 points for the meet.
Wheaton returns to the pool tomorrow when it heads to Wellesley, Mass. to take on Wellesley College at 11:00 a.m., while Roger Williams hosts the eight-team RWU Invite tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
