Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Junior forward Anda Brown (South Woodstock, Vt.) scored her first collegiate goal for the Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team in a 3-1 loss to host Husson University this afternoon at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex in Bangor, Maine.
The Lyons fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 2-1.
Husson controlled possession throughout the match, owning a 24-4 shot advantage, while holding Wheaton without a shot attempt in both the first and four quarters.
Brown's first lifetime tally came in the second quarter for the Lyons when junior midfielder Mackenzie Yates (Brownsville, Vt.) found her for Wheaton's only score of the match coming with just 67 seconds left in the opening half. Brown's strike tied the match at 1-1 for the Lyons.
The Eagles registered both the go-ahead and an insurance goal in a third quarter that saw them hold a 12-1 margin on shots.
Junior forward Amanda Frost (Rockland, Maine) reclaimed the lead for the home team, scoring her second goal of the day on an assist from first year forward Maddie Perkins (Winthrop, Maine) to give the home team a 2-1 edge just 2:57 into the third quarter.
Sophomore Delia Knox (Cumberland, Maine) looked to respond for Wheaton, but her try went wide at 33:22 of the third period. Her shot was the final attempt of the afternoon for the Lyons, who held a 4-3 edge on penalty corners.
Husson added to its lead less than six minutes later when senior Katie Perkins (Winthrop, Maine) sent a cross to first year forward Kyla Havey (Freeport, Maine) for the rookie's first collegiate goal at 38:25 of the match.
Perkins set up Frost for the first marker of the contest midway through the first quarter at 7:28 to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Junior keeper Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) made 13 saves for Wheaton, while senior Kimmie Goddard (Westbrook, Maine) stopped a shot to earn the win for Husson.
The Lyons return to action on Tuesday, September 6 when they host Western New England University in Wheaton's home opener at 7:00 p.m. on Nordin Field. The Eagles will also play WNEU in their next game on September 16 at 4:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
