Noble Scores Late to Give Men's Soccer 2-2 Draw at Connecticut College

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior midfielder Ewan Noble (Newport, R.I.) scored with just 2:43 to play and give the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer team a 2-2 tie over host Connecticut College this afternoon at Freeman Field in New London, Conn.

The Lyons are now 4-3-3 on the season for their highest tie total since they recorded four draws in 2012, while the Camels stand at 3-1-2. Wheaton is now unbeaten in the last two meetings between the schools, including a 2-1 win last season in Norton, Mass.

Both teams scored one goal apiece in each half, while Connecticut College owned a 15-8 shot advantage for the game and took all four corner kicks.

Noble pulled the Lyons even at 2-2 when he took a free kick from 30 yards out and served a high arcing ball the scraped the cross bar and richoted down and over the goal line in the 88th minute to make it 2-2 with his second goal of the year. The tally also gave Noble two game-tying goals in as many contests for Wheaton.

The Lyons tallied the game's first goal of the afternoon as well with a goal in the 23rd minute for a 1-0 lead. Senior midfielder Jack Brusso (Pawtucket, R.I.) sent a pass to sophomore forward Alasdair Ferrier (Concord, N.H.) on the right side on a give-and-go and Ferrier found Brusso in front of the net for a one-timer and his first marker of the season at 22:52 of the opening half.

The Camels put the equalizer on the board with just 47 ticks left in the first half to knot the score at 1-1. Junior forward Jack Creus (Rye, N.Y.) sent a low shot from outside of the box off the far left post, where sophomore defender Jack Kelesoglu (Westfield, N.J.) picked up the rebound for the quick put-back and his first goal of the season.

Connecticut College took its only lead of the match with a goal off a corner kick in the 65th minute of play. Junior back Sam Boehm (Lexington, Mass.) served a ball off the corner kick to the far left side of the box, where first year forward Elliot Spatz (Bellevue, Wash.) re-directed the ball with a header to the goal-mouth and junior forward Matt Scoffone (Thorton, Pa.) connected with a header of his own to register his first collegiate goal with 25:23 to play in the match.

Senior keeper Cam Millington (Fairfield, Conn.) stopped two shots for Wheaton, while Sam Maidenberg (South Orange, N.J.) made two saves for the Camels.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they travel to Boston, Mass. to take on New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference foe Emerson College at 1:00 p.m., while Connecticut College hosts New England Small College Athletic Conference rival Hamilton College on the same day at 2:30 p.m. for its fifth straight home contest.
