Field Hockey Defeated by Endicott

NORTON, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team was defeated by visiting Endicott College, 5-0, this evening on Nordin Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Gulls improve to 3-2.

First year midfielder Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) tallied five points, including her first two collegiate goals and senior forward Olivia Lampasona (Watertown, Mass.) scored the first two markers of the night to lead Endicott.

The Gulls dominated the match with a 34-9 shot advantage that was backed by a 15-4 penalty corner margin.

Endicott was held without a goal through the first 25-plus minutes of play, before Lampasona scored twice in less than four minutes to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Her first tally came with 4:18 left in the second quarter, before striking again just 37 seconds shy of the intermission on an assist from senior forward Meaghan Hogan (Cheshire, Conn.).

Swanson increased the Endicott lead to three goals with her first career marker coming just 3:37 into the second half. Swanson fed Hogan for her fourth goal of the season with 3:39 left in the third quarter to give the Gulls a 4-0 lead. Swanson capped the scoring with her second goal coming with 5:51 remaining in the contest.

Junior midfielder Mackenzie Yates (Brownsville, Vt.) led Wheaton's offensive effort with three shots, including one on the cage.

First year goalie Brianna Anslow (Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned the win with two saves through the first three quarters of play for Endicott, before yielding to classmate Alexis DeMattia (Methuen, Mass.), who stopped the only shot she faced in the fourth quarter. Junior keeper Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) turned away 12 of 16 shots in 45:06 of play for the Lyons, before sophomore Neilee Hess (Franklin, Mass.) finished the fourth quarter for the home team.

Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, September 17 when it heads to Middletown, Conn. to take on Wesleyan University at 12:00 p.m., while the Gulls travel to Bristol, R.I. to open the Commonwealth Coast Conference slate with Roger Williams University on the same day at 1:00 p.m.
